Routes come in three tiers: IEPL dedicated, relay, and direct. The type describes only the path data takes from entry to exit; it is not a promise of real-time speed on any single route. A country usually has several routes that back each other up, and the list inside the client is the definitive source for what is currently available.

The Three Route Types Explained

A route type describes the path data takes from your local entry point to its destination exit. That path determines how well it holds up under peak-hour jitter, how much concurrency it can carry, and its cost per unit of bandwidth — and therefore what it is best suited for.

IEPL Dedicated Line

International Ethernet Private Line: a point-to-point Layer 2 channel between the entry data center and the exit data center. Traffic does not take public internet exit routes; it travels a fixed path straight to the exit. Because the path is predictable, peak-hour jitter is noticeably lower than on ordinary public routes, and long-lived connections are less likely to be reset mid-session.

Best For
Video meetings for remote work, 4K streaming, and AI tool sessions that need to stay connected for hours.
Cost
The highest cost per unit of bandwidth, so dedicated lines usually cover only popular regions. Best used as your primary route rather than a backup.

Relay

The client first connects to a nearby entry node, which then forwards traffic along an optimized backbone path to the exit node; the final exit is still a local route in the target country. In effect, one unpredictable long-distance public path is split into two shorter, observable segments — at the cost of one extra hop.

Best For
Regions that are far away or where direct paths often take detours; situations that need a fixed exit country on a limited budget.
Cost
Between dedicated and direct in cost. Entry nodes can be shared, so capacity is easier to scale, which is why there are usually more relay routes than dedicated ones.

Direct

The client connects straight to an exit node in the target region with no extra entry forwarding, giving the shortest path. It is sensitive to the quality of the public internet between your local connection and that region, so it performs consistently in nearby regions with good public routing and fluctuates more across continents.

Best For
Access within a region, and light use that only needs one fixed regional exit.
Cost
The lowest cost, which is why direct routes are the most numerous. Well suited to traffic splitting and backup.

Route type is independent of plan price: monthly plans are ¥9.9/month for 60GB, ¥18/month for 250GB, and ¥28/month for 500GB. All three tiers can use every route type — the only difference is the monthly data allowance. Data packs are ¥158/300GB, ¥358/1000GB, and ¥658/3000GB; they last until used up and never expire.

Choosing Routes by Use Case

The order is: pick the exit country first, then the route type. The exit country determines which regional catalog you reach; the route type determines how stable that path is during peak hours. Below are guidelines for five common use cases.

Everyday Browsing and News

Web browsing, research, and email need little bandwidth and only moderate stability. Prefer an exit node that is physically close, and either direct or relay will do; if public routing from your location to that region is already good, a direct route feels much like a dedicated one. There is no need to tie up dedicated capacity here — save it for more demanding tasks.

Streaming

First confirm that the platform's region matches your exit country: to watch a specific regional catalog, choose an exit node in that country — route type comes second. 4K playback is more sensitive to packet loss than to bandwidth, and a single dropped packet can trigger a bitrate drop, so for streaming choose a dedicated line or a good-quality relay rather than judging by bandwidth numbers alone. The same platform can perform differently in different cities, so keep two or three options ready.

AI Tools

AI tools mostly run long-lived sessions, and a mid-session disconnect means starting the task over. Pick one stable route and stay on it, and avoid logging in to the same account from exits in several countries within a short window. If a route slows down, switch to another route in the same country rather than changing countries. Dedicated lines and well-optimized relays pay off most in this scenario.

Gaming

Gaming performance is decided by latency and jitter together; bandwidth is rarely the bottleneck. Prefer a physically close exit node — a cross-continent exit adds noticeable input delay even with plenty of bandwidth. Among route types, dedicated comes first because it suppresses jitter best; if you are playing on servers within your region, direct is usually enough.

Remote Work and Meetings

Video meetings, collaborative documents, and code repository sync all use a steady trickle of bandwidth but suffer badly from interruptions. Set a dedicated line as your primary route and keep a relay in the same country as a backup in the client. On mobile, add the client to the system's battery-optimization allowlist so the background process is not killed and the connection dropped. End any meeting in progress before switching routes.

A single country usually has several routes, for redundancy and traffic splitting: when one path degrades at certain hours, you can switch to another route in the same country without changing your exit country. Inside the client, routes are grouped by region and route type and sorted by name, so they are easy to find.

Do the cities and route types in the list change?

Yes. Exit data centers and network paths change as carriers adjust their networks, and additions and removals are reflected in the route list inside the client; this page shows only a sample from each region. Existing subscribers are not affected: the number of available exit countries does not decrease, and changes usually involve route types and city distribution within the same country.

Why does one country need several routes?

Mainly for redundancy and traffic splitting. The quality of cross-border links fluctuates over time and with carrier policies, so with several paths in one country you can move to another the moment one degrades — the exit country stays the same, and your account and login state are unaffected. Route types also serve different purposes: dedicated lines suit long, stable connections, while direct suits light use.

Does a higher route count mean faster speeds?

No. The route count only means more exit choices and backup paths; the speed of any single connection depends on the type of the route you picked, its path length, and the quality of your local connection. Rather than trying routes at random, work from your use case: decide which exit country you need, then prefer a dedicated line in that country, with a relay in the same country as the next option.

How do I tell whether a route works for streaming?

The Streaming Support column lists platforms commonly available in that exit country. Check in this order: first whether the country matches the platform's region, then the route type. Regional catalogs are set by the platform itself — the same platform offers different libraries in different countries, and routes do not change that. If playback bitrate fluctuates, switch to another route in the same country before considering a different country.

How many routes can one account use at the same time?

VPNDX allows unlimited simultaneous devices, and one account can sign in on multiple devices; a single device, however, can use only one route at a time. With several devices, assign each one a fixed route — for example, a dedicated line on your computer for work and AI tools, and a relay in the same country on your phone for everyday browsing — so they are less likely to compete for the same path.
